*Anmerkung der Autorin:
„Das Unrecht geht im Land um wie ein Tiger auf Beutejagd“ ist ein Zitat des nigerianischen Schriftstellers, Bürgerrechtlers und Umweltaktivisten Ken Saro-Wiwa aus seinem Gefängnistagebuch.
(Der Dichter erhielt für seine Verdienste für Menschenrechte bzw. Umwelt den alternativen Nobelpreis, den Bruno-Kreisky-Preis und den Goldman Environmental Prize.)
Nach seiner Hinrichtung am 10.11.95 erschien dieses Buch posthum. Die deutsche Übersetzung wurde unter dem Titel „Flammen der Hölle – Nigeria und Shell: Der schmutzige Krieg gegen die Ogoni“, Rowohlt Taschenbuch Verlag, Reinbek bei Hamburg, 1996, veröffentlicht.

Crocodile, sea cow, pigmy hippo.
Rivers and mangrove forest.
Fields with grain, manioc and yams – before.

BORN IN NINETEEN FORTY-ONE
SON OF THE TRIBAL CHIEF
AUTHOR AND HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGNER

Swathes through the primeval forest. Drilling rigs.
Pipelines. Refineries.
The shell drills. Shares brown liquid gold with dictator.

THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND MARCH.
FIGHT FOR THE SURVIVAL
OF THE OGONI PEOPLE – WITHOUT VIOLENCE

Inhabitants expelled. Profit bubbles. Pipes leak.
Oil in earth and rivers.
No bird is flying in the sky anymore.

DEATH SENTENCE GALLOWS. EXECUTED.
THE SHELL WOULD HAVE – BUT
CONCEDED TO THE DICTATOR.

Rivers without fish. No green anywhere. People without a homeland.
Yellow shell moves on.
Leave behind viscid death.

WANTS TO FORGET. LAND AND PEOPLE.
DEAL WITH THE DICTATOR.

“Injustice is stalking through the land like a tiger hunting for prey” is a quote by the Nigerian author, civil rights campaigner and environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa from his prison diary.

(The poet was awarded the alternative Nobel Prize, the Bruno-Kreisky Prize and the Goldman Environmental Prize for his services to human rights and the environment.)

After his execution on 10.11.95, this book was published posthumously.

The German translation was published with the title “Flammen der Hölle – Nigeria und Shell: Der schmutzige Krieg gegen die Ogoni” (Flames of Hell -Nigeria and Shell: The Dirty War Against The Ogoni”), Rowohlt Taschenbuch Verlag, Reinbek near Hamburg, 1996.

“La injusticia ronda por el país como un tigre cazando presas” es una cita del escritor nigeriano, activista por los derechos humanos y por el medioambiente Ken Saro-Wiwa de su diario de la prisión.

(El poeta recibió el premio Nobel alternativo, el premio Bruno-Kreisky y la Goldman Environmental Prize por sus servicios a la causa de los derechos humanos y del medioambiente.)

Tras su ejecución el 10.11.95 apareció este libro de manera póstuma.
